This site is packed with information to enhance your visit to, and knowledge of, France. Before you leave, look at our site map to see. |
before we start, just to remind you what France looks like....French tourist board (www.tourisme.fr).From this site, you can access the tourist sites (alphabetically) of just about anywhere in France (3600 of them). Be careful though, although the top pages can be displayed in English, when you get deep, some are only in French. About the Loire valley. Even book a castle! The Loire is one of France's chief rivers (see Pays de la Loire, on the map above). It is a significant dividing line. South of the Loire the temperature tends to be a good deal hotter than North of it. The area is famous for its castles (chateaux). As the site says: "This is the "country of thousand castles" : not only Royal Castles and Renaissance Palaces ,National Museum and Large magnificent Châteaux , but also : Manors ,Middle Age‘s Castles and Fortresses , small "Fairy tales" Manors ,mansions , Private Castles ,Châteaux Hotels ,"Self Catering" Castles , luxurious old houses , medieval cities, towers ,bastions ,fortified farms and churches ,abbeys ,cathedrals...It is worth driving at random in Loire Valley, Touraine, Sologne, Poitou, Berry and discover castles, castles ,castles ...more castles." Mein Gott, it's beautiful (sorry, that's not French).
Beyond France - a wonderful site devoted to Provence The Vendee. - an absolutely cracking site about the Vendee, by Angela Bird, a very good author on the subject
